Supported Independent Living is funded through the NDIS Core Supports, Assistance with Daily Life category. Our team can help you understand your eligibility, navigate the funding process, and design supports that align with your plan, lifestyle and long-term goals.
swara is a welcoming place where you can try new things, discover your strengths, and feel supported every step of the way.
In-Home Support provides flexible, day-to-day assistance. SIL is designed for people who need ongoing or 24/7 support to live safely and independently in their own home.
Supported Independent Living (SIL) provides NDIS funding for daily living support and personal care, such as cooking, cleaning, and medication management, helping individuals live as independently as possible.
SIL funding covers the cost of paid support workers to assist with daily routines, personal care (showering, dressing), attending medical appointments and community participation, behavioural support, social skill development, and skill-building.
SIL funding does not cover the cost of housing or everyday living expenses. You cannot use SIL funding for rent or mortgage payments, groceries, dining out, household bills, or personal items.
You can receive SIL support whether you live alone, or you choose to live in shared accommodation with other people with a disability.
If you have funding for a shared living arrangement, you can have input into the housemates you live with. It is important to find housemates with similar routines, lifestyles and goals.
Of course! It’s encouraged to have friends and family visit as often as you like.
NDIS Plans are flexible so if your needs changes, your NDIS plan can be reviewed, and support hours adjusted accordingly. This ensures you get the right level of SIL support.
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is funding for the actual care and support staff provided to assist you with daily living tasks.
Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is funding for the physical accommodation (house, unit, townhouse or apartment), specifically designed for people with high support needs. SIL supports can be delivered in a private home or in a SDA home.
To access SIL funding, you will need to discuss your goals and living preferences during your NDIS planning meeting, and have SIL funding included in your NDIS plan.
